Hypnosis

Kathy was trained in hypnosis at The Cambridge Hospital in the Behavioral Medicine Program. She practices clinical hypnosis, teaches patients self-hypnosis and often provides CD’s for patients to use at home in between sessions. There are many myths and misconceptions about this approach and Kathy can educate you about the benefits and help you decide if hypnosis would be a good treatment choice for you.

Hypnosis allows people to enter a state of alert, wakeful, focused attention. It is a deeply relaxing experience. Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance. During hypnosis you are more open than usual to suggestions and you can concentrate more intensely. The purpose is to help gain more control over your behavior, emotions or physical well-being.

Hypnosis is a great treatment for changing negative behaviors such as smoking and overeating. It is also effective for lowering blood pressure, relieving symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), reducing headaches, decreasing fears, stress and anxiety. It has also been found effective in easing symptoms of asthma, headaches and some skin diseases.
